People see what they want in this movie. Many say its proof that that America, and the suburbs, somehow destroy people and their spirits. As if people are not unhappy in Paris. The key to this movie is that all they needed to do was THINK about moving to Paris, and they were instantly happier. Life is about choice. People feel trapped. They WANT to be trapped, since being trapped is easier than being free. But you cannot be truly happy until you are free. A house in the suburbs has nothing to do with this. As for the affair, note that only the woman involved in the affair remembers how Frank Wheeler had a dad at Knox, and how he would be proud of Frank. In an odd way, she gives him what April cannot. April is a modern woman, who wants a career and is not happy as a housewife, or a person whose sole job is to take care of her husband. Her motives for wanting to move to Paris are not just to free her husband from a job he hates, but to free herself from a life she hates.

So go on, blame it all on the American flag and apple pie and houses with yards. Its about empowerment, the advancement of women in society. We are advancing as a people, as a society. Changing. For better and worse, its happening. This movie, based on a book written decades ago, is a commentary on it.

Caught up with D- missed your call, been working graveyard shifts...laid off... looking to head back east. May be wiring a new studio in Chicago, keep that plan in your prayers, it would be lovely to be near you and the family for the length of that work.
